Is this Bradenton Winn-Dixie turning into an Aldi grocery store? What the company says

There are seven Aldi locations in Manatee County.

But that could soon change.

The grocery store, headquartered in Batavia, Illinois, announced in March that the company acquired Winn-Dixie and planned 800 stores nationwide through new openings or store conversions.

According to Manatee County building records, Aldi Inc., applied for a “tenant interior remodel” at 5805 Manatee Avenue W., the same address as an existing Winn-Dixie store.

Aldi released a statement to the Bradenton Herald that they are finalizing store conversion plans and are not announcing which stores will convert to an Aldi format.

“This summer we began a phased approach to the store conversion process,” an Aldi spokesperson said. “We anticipate that approximately 50 stores will begin the conversion process during the latter half of 2024, with the majority of these stores reopening as ALDI in 2025.”

Aldi’s statement said building permits are “part of our planning process” and are not an indicator of an imminent store conversion. The company said if thatr Winn-Dixie store is confirmed as a conversion location, the store’s employees would receive “personalized communication” about “plans, opportunities and resources” before the the store is converted.

The company also reiterated the March announcement plan to keep a “meaningful amount of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets will continue to operate under their current banner.”

Aldi’s acquisition of Southeastern Grocers also included Harveys Supermarkets. Southeastern Grocers was the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys.

A new Aldi grocery store, 8810 U.S. 301 N., recently opened at the Creekside Commons shopping center in Parrish. The plaza is also anchored by Lowe’s and HomeGoods.
