Brad Pitt lost a role on this iconic TV show because he wasn’t funny enough

Brad Pitt lost a role on this iconic TV show because he wasn’t funny enough

Once upon a time, he wanted to go where everybody knew his name, but somehow Brad Pitt was rejected for a Cheers guest role. How on Earth is this even possible, you’re probably wondering. Well, the answer’s really simple. Apparently, Pitt’s Cheers audition didn’t go so well because he just wasn’t funny.

Recently, Modern Family casting director Jeff Greenberg spoke about his book Callback, in which he recounts his experiences with choosing the right talent for the role.

In recalling the moment Pitt tried out for the Cheers role, Greenberg revealed the brief note he made during the actor’s audition.

“My only note was ‘Not funny,'” Greenberg said. “For the part, he wasn’t funny — he’s been funny since.”

Whew! Thank goodness he’s funny now or else we might’ve had to accept the fact that Pitt isn’t actually perfect, which is a most terrifying thought.

Anyway, Pitt isn’t the only Hollywood star who received a mention in Greenberg’s book. He also recalls passing on Keri Russell for a role on My So-Called Life, where she tried out for the esteemed part of Model No. 1. But Greenberg doesn’t just talk about all the funny fails. He reveals how he gave guest roles to actresses Zooey Deschanel, Kristen Wiig and Millie Bobby Brown, as well the moment he cast Eric Stonestreet as Cameron on Modern Family.

So, there you have it, everyone! The obvious moral of the story here is to never give up on your dreams, no matter how unfunny you are at the moment.
