Yahoo Finance Boris Johnson news – live: PM denies attempting to block leak enquiry after attack from Dominic Cummings
Dominic Cummings has said that Boris Johnson is failing the UK on “competence and integrity” after the former adviser was accused by Downing Street sources of leaking damaging information on the government.
In an explosive blog post, Mr Cummings wrote: “It is sad to see the PM and his office fall so far below the standards of competence and integrity the country deserves.”
The former adviser denied being the source of recent leaks and accused Mr Johnson of “unethical” behaviour in office on a number of occasions amid an ongoing row about lobbying in Whitehall.
In response to claims made in Mr Cumming’s post, a No 10 spokesperson said the government “acted in accordance with the appropriate codes of conduct and electoral law” over the PM’s Downing Street flat and denied the PM had ever interfered in a government leak inquiry.
It came as the prime minister claimed on Friday that there was nothing “remotely dodgy” about his conversations with billionaire Sir James Dyson, which concerned the tax status of Dyson staff working in the UK on ventilators last year.
Meanwhile, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer accused ministers of “government by Whatsapp” and attacked the “quarrelling at the centre of government” over leaking.
