Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton Bash Pfizer-Allergan Deal
Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton have both come out in opposition of the newly announced Pfizer-Allergan merger, which many see as a move to avoid taxes. Under the deal, Pfizer will technically be bought by Dublin-based Allergan and relocate to Ireland, and then change the name of the new company to Pfizer. This will allow Pfizer to avoid the higher-than-average corporate tax rates in the U.S. in a move known as a tax inversion. The following visualizations provide context by showing the total tax rates for businesses worldwide and the five biggest M&A's in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as to show recent polling and a comparison for both of the candidates.
