Under the rule, a player was not awarded a catch if he did not cleanly transfer the ball from his glove to his throwing hand. After players and managers complained, the league decided to revert back to the old rule. Now, if a player who catches a ball bobbles or drops it while transferring it from his glove to his throwing hand, it is considered an out. - - - A troublesome calf injury forced San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley to the disabled list on Friday. Headley, who missed most of spring training with a right calf strain, reinjured it during Thursday's 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals while exiting the batter's box on a flyout during his second-inning at-bat. He is expected to miss two to three weeks. - - - Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was activated from the 15-day disabled list just in time Friday to take over for his injured replacement. Kevin Kouzmanoff, who filled in at third while Beltre was sidelined with a left quadriceps injury, was placed on the 15-day DL with a herniated disc in his lower back. Beltre, who is hitting .286 with four RBIs this season, was in the lineup for Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners. - - - Pittsburgh Pirates closer Jason Grilli went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Monday with a strained left oblique. The 2013 All-Star has not pitched since he gave up ninth-inning home runs to Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun on Saturday and Sunday. - - - The rights to an article in Los Angeles Magazine about Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig's journey from Cuba to the major leagues was recently acquired and will be made into a movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Jesse Katz's "Escape from Cuba: Yasiel Puig's Untold Journey to the Dodgers," which recently was published, chronicles how Puig made it from Cuba to Mexico with the help of smugglers who worked for a Mexican drug cartel. The film will be produced by Brett Ratner, who has directed several big-budget movies, including the "Rush Hour" trilogy, "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Hercules," which opens in July. - - - New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran believes Major League Baseball should have more translators available for Spanish-speaking players when interacting with the media. Beltran made the comments in light of teammate Michael Pineda admitting to reporters that he used pine tar after it was announced the right-handed pitcher was suspended 10 games.
