Atrium Mortgage Investment Not Expected To Earn Enough To Cover Its Payments

We like to see robust dividend yields, but that doesn't matter if the payment isn't sustainable.

Atrium Mortgage Investment has established itself as a dividend paying company with over 10 years history of distributing earnings to shareholders. Past distributions do not necessarily guarantee future ones, but Atrium Mortgage Investment's payout ratio of 91% is a good sign as this means that earnings decently cover dividends.

This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 1.6% over that duration. The dividend has seen some fluctuations in the past, so even though the dividend was raised this year, we should remember that it has been cut in the past.

Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Achieve

Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend.
