Apple Music Wins Right to Stream New Carpool Karaoke Series

Love it or hate it, you're about to get a whole lot more "Carpool Karaoke" thanks to an exclusive licensing deal with Apple (ticker: AAPL) Music.

The popular segment from "The Late Late Show With James Corden" will become a CBS Television Studios-Fulwell 73-produced 16-episode series, available each week on Apple Music exclusively in more than 100 countries. James Corden and Ben Winston, executive producer of the late night series, created the new series and will executive produce. Fulwell 73 is Winston's production company.

Every episode will follow a similar format to Corden's current late night fare: A celebrity will ride along with a to-be-announced host, driving to places that matter to the celebrity while belting favorite songs and bringing in surprise guests.

The viral video segment -- attracting more than 830 million views on YouTube after its start last year -- has attained the likes of Adele (what CBS is touting as the most-watched late night clip on YouTube at 119 million views over six months), Jennifer Lopez and even First Lady Michelle Obama. The segment will still recur on Corden's show.

Production should begin soon, though there is currently no premiere date.

"We couldn't be more excited to be partnering with Apple Music on this exciting new series of Carpool Karaoke," Winston says in a statement. "The joy of Carpool is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music. Where better to showcase that than with Apple Music."

After Adele channeled Nicki Minaj and Michelle Obama belted Beyonce, whoever appears on this new series has big shoes to fill.
