Apple Music hits 20M paid subscribers; Fitbit reaches new deal; Mylan plans to cut jobs

Apple (AAPL) – The tech giant said it added three million Apple Music users since September, bringing its total paid subscriber count to 20 million. Apple Music is now in second place behind Spotify which has 40 million.

Starbucks (SBUX) – The Seattle coffee giant discusses its future strategy at its Investor Day. Outgoing CEO Howard Schultz said the company is only in the “early days” of growth, pointing to the Reserve business and strong growth in China as big revenue drivers.

Fitbit (FIT) – The wearable maker is acquiring Pebble’s software assets, including intellectual and personal properties, but did not not acquire the company’s hardware products. Fitbit co-founder and CEO James Park said the company “sees an opportunity to build on our strengths and extend our leadership position in the wearables category.”

Mylan (MYL) – The company is cutting less than 10% of its workforce as it works to restructure its business and streamline global operations. Mylan says it plans to disclose additional details as initiatives are finalized.

Vera Bradley (VRA) – The retailer’s shares were halted ahead of the company’s earnings release. Shares plunged as Vera Bradley lowered its full-year outlook after missing its own forecast for the third quarter.

Pfizer (PFE) – Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority is fining Pfizer $107 million for allegedly overcharging the national health-care system for an epilepsy drug that’s used by about 48,000 patients in the country. The U.K.’s top antitrust regulator said Pfizer broke competition law by charging unfair prices.
