  • A report from the Japanese website Mac Otakara suggests Apple's AirPower will launch as soon as March.

  • The AirPower is a wireless pad designed to charge multiple Apple devices at the same time without cables.

  • Apple announced the AirPower in September, saying it would launch in 2018.

Apple is on track to release its AirPower charging unit this year, according to a report from the Japanese website Mac Otakara (which we first saw via 9to5Mac).

AirPower is an oval-shaped pad large enough to hold and charge your iPhone X, 8, or 8 Plus, or Apple Watch. The setup does not require cables and is designed to charge up to three devices at once.

AirPower is also expected to work with AirPod headphones, provided you buy Apple's new battery case for the headphones with wireless charging capabilities. The AirPower units and the charging-enabled AirPods case are likely to launch at the same time, though there's no mention of that in Mac Otakara's report.

Apple is separately expected to launch a second-generation pair of AirPods.

Mac Otakara doesn't have a specific date, but it's reporting that the AirPower should launch in March and that it will be available from both Apple and select third-party resellers such as Best Buy.

There are still no details on price. A Polish retailer last year suggested that the AirPower would cost $199 (£142), but it seems unlikely that an independent shop would have been clued up on a future Apple product.
