Trump wants Scaramucci to be White House communications chief, but top staff pushes back

President Donald Trump wants to name Wall Street wheeler dealer Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director but top administration officials are pushing back, NBC confirmed.

A source close to the White House told NBC that Scaramucci met with Trump and it went well. When NBC asked whether Trump would change is mind, the source said the president's mind is made up.

But Trump chief of staff Reince Priebus and top adviser Steve Bannon had resisted the appointment, NBC News reported Friday. It said the two were kept out of the loop on the decision.

Because Scaramucci is said to be very close to the Trump family and that Trump likes him, he would threaten the influence of Priebus and Bannon on Trump, NBC reported. Trump had scheduled a meeting with Scaramucci, Bannon, Priebus, and White House press secretary Sean Spicer at 10 a.m. ET, according to NBC.

Scaramucci, who sold his stake in SkyBridge Capital earlier this year, is well known as the host of the annual SkyBridge Alternatives (SALT) Conference and is currently the U.S. Export-Import Bank's senior vice president.
