YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Several weeks ago it was revealed “NYPD Blue” and “Deadwood” creator David Milch had, over the course of decades, gambled away an estimated $100 million fortune, leaving him $17 million in debt and with the IRS breathing down his back. Almost immediately, the asking price of his sublimely picturesque compound on Massachusett’s postcard-perfect Martha’s Vineyard was unceremoniously slashed from $8.95 million to a sliver under $7 million.

The 22-acre acre oceanfront compound, bought by Milch and his wife Rita in 1996 for about $4 million, all together sports, per online marketing materials, 11 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms divided among three separate residences: a classic, shingled and shuttered Cape Cod-style main house originally built in the 1880s with five bedrooms and seven bathrooms in about 3,500 square feet; a nearly 1,600-square foot guesthouse in a converted carriage house with four more bedrooms; and a sweet-as-sugar 600-square-foot pond-side cottage. The property offers plenty of open space, rolling lawns, a tennis court in the woods at the front of the property, and a gloriously unspoiled 300-foot stretch of private beach.

The former Yale professor and four-time Emmy-winning police procedural pioneer previously sold his longtime home in Los Angeles, just west of the Brentwood Country Club, in May 2014 for $4.8 million.
