American Airlines flight ignites at Chicago's O'Hare Airport

American Airlines (AAL) Flight 383 aborted takeoff from Chicago 's O'Hare International Airport due to an engine-related mechanical issue on Friday afternoon, the airline told CNBC. The FAA said the Miami-bound Boeing 767 blew a tire and damaged an engine, prompting the pilots to abort takeoff.

The 161 passengers and 9 crew members deplaned via chute onto the runway. The airline said all passengers have been bused back to the terminal. Seven passengers and one flight attendant reported minor injuries and were transported to the hospital to be evaluated. The company said it is re-accommodating its passengers on another flight to Miami this evening.

The Chicago Department of Aviation said the Chicago Fire Department responded to Flight 383 on fire at the airport at approximately 2:35 p.m. local time.
