Aldi grocery store chain plans to build another Manatee County location, records say

Low-cost grocer Aldi has taken notice of all the retail and residential construction underway on Moccasin Wallow Road in northern Manatee County.

The company has plans for its second Parrish grocery store — and seventh overall in Manatee County — at 8225 Moccasin Wallow Road, between Carter Road and Sea Chase Avenue.

The grocery site is in the vicinity of the Seaire, a master-planned community that will feature a lagoon. Seaire is expected to bring more than 3,000 homes and possibly a hotel to northern Manatee County.

Del Webb’s BayView community is nearby, and a second Del Webb community called Sunchase is also planned.

In addition, The Carlton at Robinson Gateway would bring 610 garden apartments to the area, next to the planned BayCare hospital.

Aldi had a pre-application meeting with Manatee County Development Services on the proposed Moccasin Wallow store in March.

Wendy’s and Slim Chickens have also filed paperwork to open stores in the Parrish area.

Aldi plans another Parrish grocery store

In 1961, the Albrecht family founded Aldi in Germany. The company is now based in Batavia, Illinois.

Aldi has grown to more than 2,000 stores across 36 states with over 25,000 employees, using a model of low-cost, high-quality, no frills stores, the company said.

“We avoid non-essential services like banking, pharmacies and check cashing to bring more savings to you,” Aldi says.

Aldi opened its first store in Manatee County in 2010 at 4705 Cortez Road W. in 2010.

When Aldi opened the Cortez Road location, it had 40 stores in Florida. There are now 217, which reflects the company’s rapid growth.

“It’s all about great quality product at a great value,” Dave Behm, divisional vice president for Aldi, said in 2010. “With the economy the way it is, people are looking to save anyway they can.”

In 2023, Aldi acquired Winn Dixie’s stores in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.
