ABC's fall schedule: A 'Wonder Years' remake, 'Grey's Anatomy' and some 'Queens'

ABC on Tuesday unveiled a new TV season full of dancing, romance, fun and games and just two new series to entice viewers fleeing broadcast television for streaming services.

In contrast to its network rivals, eight hours – more than a third of its 22 in total – will be devoted to unscripted reality series this fall, including "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Bachelorette," without longtime host Chris Harrison.

But ABC also continues its four-comedy lineup on Wednesdays (NBC has none), with a remake of "The Wonder Years," centered on a Black middle-class family in 1960s Montgomery, Alabama, and spring tryout "Home Economics," one of just two freshman series that earned renewals. (The other, popular mystery "Big Sky," inherits the post-"Grey's Anatomy" time slot on Thursdays.)

"Black-ish" will air its eighth and final season early next year, although its prequel spinoff "Mixed-ish" has been canceled after two seasons. Also due in 2022: "American Idol" and two new comedies "Abbott Elementary," about the dedicated staff of a Philadelphia public school; and "Maggie," starring Rebecca Rittenhouse as a psychic who's chastened when she sees a glimpse of her own future.

Also due next spring is "Women of the Movement," a fact-based limited series about Mamie Till-Mobley, who seeks justice in 1955 for the murder of her son Emmett Till. All told, three of next season's five announced new scripted series – including both new fall projects – feature predominantly Black casts.

Other cancellations were this spring's drama "Rebel," starring Katey Sagal as a crusading lawyer; jailhouse legal drama "For Life"; sitcom "American Housewife," after five seasons; and "Call Your Mother," a short-lived comedy starring Kyra Sedgwick.
