74-year-old hiker who fell down embankment found clinging to tree, Colorado cops say

A 74-year-old hiker fell 30 feet down an embankment and was found hanging from a tree, Colorado police said.

The hiker from Boulder, Colorado, fell into the embankment Saturday while walking on the Bear Canyon Trail, a 6.3-mile out-and-back trail, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

Rescuers were sent to the area after someone reported the hiker had fallen from the trail. They found the woman clinging to a tree.

“A ranger from the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks was first to arrive and found the hiker on the hillside (hanging) onto a tree,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Rescuers secured the hiker with a rope to keep her in place, and they carried her back up the hill on a litter, officials said.

The hiker was rescued after two hours, the sheriff’s office said. She was taken in an ambulance to a Boulder hospital.

Boulder is about 28 miles north of Denver.
