The 2016 Ram ProMaster is a purpose-built, customizable van designed mainly for commercial customers, though it does appeal to some consumers. For 2016, the Ram ProMaster adds window availability to its 159-in., high-roof, extended configuration, and adds a new chrome grille for upscale appearance on RV and shuttle conversions.
Here are some more facts about the 2016 ProMaster van:
1) New 20-amp auxiliary switches on the instrument panel and a second battery prep package enable a variety of conversions. Engine choices include a 174-horsepower, 3.0-liter EcoDiesel 4-cylinder with an electronically controlled Dual Active Drive 6-speed automatic transmission that generates 295 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 280-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with a 6-speed automatic transmission that makes 260 lb.-ft. of torque.
2) The ProMaster is available in two roof heights, three wheelbases, and four body lengths. Both a chassis cab and cutaway are available from the factory. Unibody frame architecture results in light weight and class-leading payload capacity of up to 5,160 lbs., Ram says, plus a maximum towing capacity of 5,100 lbs.
3) The body-integral construction and multiple configurations allow a wide range of upfittings. The ProMaster is available in two roof heights—91 or 101 in.—and vertically oriented sidewalls (nearly 90 degrees, in relation to the cargo compartment floor). A sliding door on the passenger side is standard, with an optional sliding door on the driver’s side.
4) In the rear, an available 3-position rear clamshell door swings open up to 260 degrees, folding almost flat to the side of the van. All three door openings enable forklift pallet loading and unloading.
5) Seats feature ergonomic padding and offer a multitude of adjustment options, including heat. The distance between the top of the seat and ceiling benefits taller drivers, and a suspension seat is available with an adjustment system that modulates based on the driver’s weight.
