The “Latte Myth,” popularized by finance expert David Bach, author of “The Automatic Millionaire,” vilified the Starbucks latte as one of the daily luxuries that keep people from building emergency savings or financial security. Money expert and YouTuber Jaspreet Singh might consider a pricey Starbucks latte as a “stupid purchase.”

But some of the purchases at the coffee house are better than others. And if $5 to $8 can buy you a few moments of bliss, reduce stress, and make you more productive to face your day, these items are definitely worth the cost.

Caramel Macchiato

The classic caramel macchiato hot beverage is up to $6.75 for a venti (large) size. If you’re a fan of this sweet concoction, it’s worth the cost to splurge every once in a while. But with 33 grams of sugar, this should be a once-in-a-while indulgence at any price.

Egg Bites

Starbucks’ breakfast items are prepackaged, not baked fresh. For more than $7 for a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich, you’re better off spending your money at a local deli to get fresh-cooked eggs.

If you’re looking for a quick breakfast bite, consider Starbucks’ protein-rich egg bites, at just $6.95 for two. Choose from kale and mushroom, bacon and gruyere, or egg whites and roasted red pepper for a satisfying snack.

Specialty Iced Coffees

Starbucks’ specialty iced coffees, lattes and cold brews range in price from $5.15 for a basic cold brew coffee with milk to $7.75 for flavorful treats like an iced chestnut praline latte. These refreshing beverages are worth every penny on a hot summer day.

Cake Pop

Starbucks’ famous cake pops are up to $4.55 each, according to starbucks-menu-with-prices.com. But if you’re a frazzled mom dragging your kids on errands, you really can’t put a price on a few minutes of happiness. Treat your kids to this handheld confection and settle in to recharge your batteries with a Starbucks stop during your Target run.

Coffee Traveler

If it’s your job to bring coffee to the neighborhood potluck, book club, or PTA meeting, grab a box of Pike Place roast for less than $24. The box features 96 oz. of coffee, or 12 eight-ounce cups, in an easy-to-pour box. Don’t forget to ask for cups, sweeteners and stirrers.

You shouldn’t feel guilty about treating yourself every once in a while. You can even consider it a reward for staying on track with your broader financial goals. Spending $5 on coffee once in a while shouldn’t break the bank, especially if it helps you increase your productivity or discipline in other areas — and gives you the fuel you need to face your day.
