2025 Toyota GR Corolla Reportedly Adding an Automatic Transmission

Report: 2025 Toyota GR Corolla to Add AutomaticMarc Urbano - Car and Driver

The Toyota GR Corolla is an absolute blast to drive. Along with its punchy 300-hp turbo three, its standard six-speed manual has a delightfully direct action. While Toyota's hottest hatch has only ever been offered with a stick-shift transmission, the 2025 model might be adding an eight-speed automatic option. That's according to a Canadian order guide posted on GR Corolla Forum that multiple online outlets have reported on this week.

New Gearbox, More Torque

According to the order guide, which on the forum is said to have been taken from a verified owner's group on Facebook, the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla will not only add an automatic transmission that will only be offered on the midlevel Premium trim, but all models will see their peak torque rise from 273 to 295 pound-feet. The latter output would equal the track-focused Morizo Edition that's been dropped from the lineup.

Along with the new transmission choice and increased torque, the GR Corolla will receive a few additional changes, according to the order guide. All models will wear a redesigned front bumper, although it's not clear what will be changed. The entry-level Core trim, which remains manual only, adds a heated steering wheel and brake cooling ducts. Meanwhile, the Premium gains a set of 18-inch wheels painted matte black, dual-zone automatic climate control, a head-up display, and a sub-radiator that's intended to improve engine cooling.

The top-of-the-line Circuit Edition wasn't mentioned in the order guide, but if it remains part of the lineup for 2025, it makes sense that it would adopt the same upgrades as the Premium. Car and Driver reached out to a Toyota spokesperson for comment about the report on the 2025 GR Corolla's changes, and we will update this story if we hear back.
