From Car and Driver

  • Ford's 2021 Bronco has been eagerly awaited, by no one more than C/D, so we're showing you photos of the four-door Bronco caught by our spies.

  • Yes, it's camouflaged, especially on the roof, but these photos show enough to confirm the basic body shape we expected.

  • The Bronco will be seen in full this spring and go on sale later in 2020.

We’ve just caught a glimpse of the upcoming Ford Bronco doing some cold-weather testing. Although it’s still wearing some heavy camouflage, this prototype is much further along than the last Bronco we spied running around earlier last year. Rather than that cobbled-together test mule using various components from other vehicles, this is the Bronco's production body—and it looks appropriately boxy and retro.

We can tell for sure that this is the four-door variant. While some extra bits of cladding on this prototype are meant to obscure the details, the overall shape looks very similar to our illustration. The squared-off greenhouse, massive ground clearance, and highly camouflaged roof—which could be hiding a removable hard top—all bode well for the upcoming Bronco. We're also loving the look of the rear-mounted spare tire and the slight glimpse of the square LED taillights we can see through the camouflage.

Also visible is the frame underneath and a rear differential of some sort. This serves to confirm what we already knew—that the Bronco would ride on a modified version of the Ranger pickup's body-on-frame platform, and that it will offer a myriad of four-wheel-drive systems with various differential setups.

We'll continue to bring you all the latest on this upcoming SUV, which is scheduled to debut sometime this spring.
