  • Vehicles equipped with front-wheel drive (FWD) and standard engine include automatic engine start/stop technology (optional with all-wheel drive)

Introduction
The 2017 Lincoln MKC is a compact, entry-luxury crossover SUV that competes with models such as the Acura RDX, Audi Q3, BMW X1, Infiniti QX50, Lexus NX, and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. It is offered in Premiere, Select, and Reserve trim levels, and can be further tailored through Lincoln’s exclusive Black Label purchasing program.

Exterior Features
Though it is based on the same platform as the Ford Escape, the Lincoln MKC has completely different exterior styling, including the glass, door panels, and its unique clamshell liftgate.

The Lincoln also boasts an Approach Detection welcome lighting system that detects when the SUV’s owner is returning to the vehicle and illuminates exterior and interior lighting, including a “welcome mat” with the Lincoln star logo.

New for 2017, the liftgate is power operated on the MKC Premiere. A hands-free function continues as standard equipment for the Select and Reserve trim levels.

Interior Features
Lincoln also supplies a unique interior for the MKC, one sharing little, if anything, with the less-expensive Escape.

Aside from instrumentation, displays, and switchgear, a key difference is that the Lincoln supplies far more sound isolation, including active noise control, laminated acoustic glass, pedestal side mirror designs, and felt wheel well liners.

Cargo space in the MKC measures 25.2 cu. ft. behind the rear seat. Fold the seat down to expand capacity to 53.1 cu. ft.

Optional Features
Depending upon the trim level, numerous options are offered for the 2017 Lincoln MKC. Highlights include premium Bridge of Weir leather upholstery, real wood interior trim, ambient interior lighting, and a Vista Roof boasting 12 sq. ft. of glass space. Owners can also upgrade to a THX II Certified Audio sound system complete with 14 speakers and 700 watts of power.

Under the Hood
Two engines are offered for the 2017 MKC. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is standard, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. It makes 240 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, and comes with FWD or all-wheel drive (AWD).

As an option, a turbocharged, 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine is available. It generates 285 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. of torque and comes only with AWD.

When equipped with AWD, the MKC has Lincoln Drive Control. This upgrade includes an adaptive-damping suspension that provides Normal, Comfort, and Sport settings.

Safety
Every 2017 MKC is equipped with a reversing camera, Sync 3 with automatic collision-notification technology, and a MyKey system of programmable safety features that helps to encourage safer driving habits in teenagers.

A blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert is optional for the MKC Select and standard for the MKC Reserve. Automatic high-beam headlights and rain-sensing wipers are also offered on the Select.

Options for the MKC Reserve include an adaptive cruise control system with a forward-collision warning system, and a lane-departure warning system with active lane-keeping assist.

Lincoln does not offer an automatic emergency braking system for the MKC. Instead, this SUV has Brake Support, which, when a potential collision threat exists, prepares the braking system for maximum stopping capability the moment the driver applies the brakes.

Technology
If parking proves a difficult task, the Lincoln MKC’s optional Active Park Assist with Park Out system might be of interest. Effective for both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces, this technology autonomously steers the MKC into the space while the driver operates the pedals and the transmission.

Should the owner return to find the MKC tightly “boxed in” by other vehicles, the Park Out feature can help to safely extract the SUV from the space, steering for the driver while he or she operates the pedals and the transmission.
