Former Vice President Joe Biden is getting his own ice cream flavor

"My name is Joe Biden, and I love ice cream," the former vice president said last year. "You all think I'm kidding -- I'm not. I eat more ice cream than the three other people you'd like to be with, all at once."

This may be why Cornell Dairy, Cornell University's dairy processing plant, is creating an ice cream flavor just for Biden according to the Cornell Daily Sun. The plant is teaming up with the Convocation Committee as Biden is the university's commencement speaker this year.

When the announcement was made, Cornell senior Molly Mandel thought of creating a flavor for the frozen dessert lover. She contacted Deanna Simons, quality manager and academic programs coordinator for Cornell Dairy, and said they need to make that a reality.

Simmons called the UDairy Creamery, which is part of Biden's alma mater University of Delaware, and they said his favorite flavor is chocolate chip -- and that he has never had a namesake flavor.

The Cornell Daily Sun reports that members of the Cornell community will vote on a name; the Convention Committee whittled down 150 suggestions to these: Biden's Chocolate Bites, Bits n' Biden, Big Red, White and Biden, Not Your Average Joe's Chocolate Chip and Uncle Joe's Chocolate Chip.

A fake Facebook event about Biden eating ice cream has garnered 3,000 attendees -- so Cornell is excited about the prospect. Given the enthusiasm, Cornell Dairy is making 30 three-gallon tubs of vanilla ice cream mixed with chocolate chips.

Biden's team will have a say in the name chosen, and there are plans to give out the ice cream at convocation on May 27.

"If it gains momentum, we'll make more," Simmons said. "We're keeping our fingers crossed, we're holding our breaths."

According to Mandel, the union of Biden and Cornell Dairy is natural. She said, "I think it's common sense for Cornell Dairy to make a Joe Biden flavor and it gets people even more excited."
