100 jobs coming to Union County with Spanish company’s $30M manufacturing plant

A Spanish chemical company is investing $30.5 million to open its first U.S. manufacturing plant, a move that will bring 100 jobs to Union County.

Briolf USA, a U.S. subsidiary of the family-run international industrial group Briolf based in Girona, Spain, will manufacture Roberlo coatings at the Monroe Corporate Center, Gov. Roy Cooper’s office said Thursday. The center is off Airport Road near Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport and South Piedmont Community College.

It was not immediately clear when the Briolf facility would open.

Briolf operates several companies in eight subsidiaries, including Roberlo, which makes automotive refinishing and industrial coatings.

The company’s new positions in Monroe will include engineers, managers, and operations and support staff.

For its investment, Briolf received a performance-based state tax incentive of $150,000.

The Monroe plant is part of Briolf’s long-term U.S. expansion strategy for North American customers, which over time will become a manufacturing production campus for other Briolf Group companies, according to a news release from Cooper’s office.

“The U.S. has become a crucial market for us,” Briolf Group President Jaume Juher said in a statement. “As a family-run company, our vision takes a long-term perspective.”

The over 50-year-old company operates in more than 120 countries, according to Briolf’s website.

Briolf, based in Girona, Spain, will invest $30.5 million and add 100 jobs with its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Monroe.
