Airbnb reserves its most exclusive properties for its "Luxe" listings, where well-heeled renters can book some of the most magnificent estates, villas and mansions in California and the world.
The following is a look at the most palatial Airbnb rentals in the state. For consistency's sake, the nightly rates listed are for two adults during the weekend spanning Friday, Sept. 23 to Monday, Sept. 26.
Luxury Estate in Palm Springs
Nightly rate: $8,500
The Pond Estate in Palm Springs sits on 12 sprawling acres, complete with tennis courts, an outdoor pool and the open desert as the backdrop. Inside is another pool, a wet bar, a hot tub, a massive wood-burning fireplace and a media room. The estate has five bedrooms, seven beds, and 5 1/2 baths to comfortably sleep 14 guests.

If you decide to stay at La Casa Azzurra, you'll spend your vacation high in the Santa Rosa Mountains with stunning views of the Coachella Valley below. The estate -- which consists of the main home with two adjacent homes built by the Gucci family -- sits on 23 secluded acres and is designed with remote privacy in mind. Located outside Palm Desert and next to a national park, the estate's 10 bedrooms sleep 20 guests.

Chateau de Laurel is a French Baroque estate in Beverly Hills that can sleep 16 guests in eight bedrooms with 8.5 baths spread across the main house and the guest house. Hillcrest is a classic mid-century Hollywood mansion built in 1934.
