UPDATE 1-DuPont to buy Spectrum Plastics Group for $1.75 billion

(Adds details, background)

May 2 (Reuters) - Materials and chemicals maker DuPont de Nemours Inc on Tuesday said it would buy specialty medical devices and components maker Spectrum Plastics Group from AEA Investors for $1.75 billion.

Following the acquisition about 10% of consolidated revenue will come from healthcare, the company said, adding it expects the deal to close by the end of the third quarter.

DuPont also beat analysts' estimates for first-quarter profit, as it benefited from strong demand in its water and protection segment, as well as price increases.

The company has raised prices over the past year to counter rising costs for raw materials, energy as well as logistic bottlenecks.

On an adjusted basis, DuPont earned 84 cents per share in the quarter ended March 31, compared with estimates of 80 cents, according to Refinitiv data.
