Stocks Stage a Comeback. Powell's Rate Cut Comments Can't Squash the Rally.
The three main indexes spent most of Monday in loss territory but reversed course near the close of the regular trading session. The Dow inched up 17 points or less than 0.1%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.4% and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.4%. The rally was impressive, especially in light of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaling smaller interest rate cuts during his National Association for Business Economics (NABE) appearance this afternoon.
