    (Reuters) -Australian wealth manager AMP Ltd said on Thursday its half-year underlying profit slumped by nearly a quarter, as margin pressure weighed on the banking division, sending its shares down nearly 3%. Net interest margin at AMP Bank fell to 1.32% in the first half of the fiscal year, from 1.71% a year earlier, dragged down by growth in fixed-rate loans - which are less profitable. Still, the company said the banking division's net interest margin improved in the second quarter, and will show a good performance during the second half of the year, benefiting from a higher interest rate environment.

    The main revenue source in the U.S. Senate's newly passed tax, climate and drugs bill is a novel 15% corporate minimum tax aimed at stopping large, profitable companies from gaming the Internal Revenue Service code to slash their tax bills to zero. The nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that the new tax will add around $222 billion to U.S. government coffers over the next 10 years, down from a previous projection of $313 billion after last-minute changes to the bill.     FRANKFURT (Reuters) -German container shipper Hapag-Lloyd on Thursday posted a net profit of 8.7 billion euros ($8.94 billion) for the first half of 2022, more than three times as much as a year earlier, but said war in Ukraine and the coronavirus crisis somewhat clouded its prospects. The company, the world's fifth-biggest container line, upheld forecasts made on July 28 for full year 2022 earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation to range between 18.2 billion and 20.1 billion euros, and for earnings before interest and tax to come in between 16.3 billion and 18.2 billion euros. But the forecast remained subject to uncertainties about the war, the COVID-19 pandemic and signs that spot freight rates were beginning to ease, the company said.

  • Deutsche Telekom lifts profit view, aims for T-Mobile majority soon

    STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -Deutsche Telekom on Thursday raised its annual earnings forecast for the second time after beating quarterly estimates, and said it could achieve its goal of a majority stake in U.S. unit T-Mobile much sooner than 2024. The company has said it wants to own a majority of T-Mobile, which led much of the group's subscriber growth in the second quarter, over the medium term. Deutsche Telekom now expects to post adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation after leases (EBITDA AL) of around 37 billion euros ($38 billion) in 2022, up from previous guidance of more than 36.6 billion euros.

    Growth in Bangladesh's garment exports could drop to about 15% this year after an unusually strong expansion of more than 30% in 2021, two industry leaders told Reuters on Wednesday, as U.S. and European customers grapple with cost of living pressures. The garment industry accounts for more than 80% of total exports for Bangladesh, which sells to clients such as Walmart, Gap Inc, H&M, VF Corp, Zara and American Eagle Outfitters - some of which have already flagged weak sales as their customers prioritise basics.     Moscow Exchange will allow non-residents from designated "friendly" countries that have not imposed sanctions against Russia to trade bonds from Aug. 15, Russia's largest bourse said on Wednesday. Moscow Exchange said last week it would allow clients from "friendly" jurisdictions to start trading after an almost six-month hiatus but it later said this would apply only to the derivatives market, not the main stock market. Analysts said the move was partly due to concerns that investors from the European Union, United States and Britain - which are currently banned from trading in Moscow - might be able to use the resumption of trading by "friendly" nations as a back door to offload any Russian stocks they still hold.
