TSX rises 0.43 percent

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX <.GSPTSE> rose 65.97 points, or 0.43 percent, to 15,470.10. Leading the index were Baytex Energy Corp , up 6.0 percent, West Fraser Timber Co Ltd , up 4.9 percent, and Detour Gold Corp , higher by 3.9 percent. Lagging shares were BRP Inc , down 6.5 percent, Aphria Inc , down 5.9 percent, and Shopify Inc , lower by 5.7 percent. On the TSX 160 issues rose and 83 fell as a 1.9-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 3 new highs and 7 new lows, with total volume of 245.8 million shares. The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc , Aphria Inc and Manulife Financial Corp . The TSX's energy group <.SPTTEN> rose 1.28 points, or 0.73 percent, while the financials sector <.SPTTFS> climbed 0.60 points, or 0.21 percent. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 0.89 percent, or $0.61, to $69.26 a barrel. Brent crude rose 0.83 percent, or $0.66, to $79.95 [O/R] The TSX is off 4.6 percent for the year.
