Here’s Victor Oladipo singing Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine,’ which is neat (Video)

Those of us who've been up on Victor Oladipo for a minute or two know that the young guard fancies himself a singer. Two springs ago, colleague Graham Watson shared the then-Indiana freshman belting out Usher's "U Got It Bad". This past March, Pat Forde reported that Oladipo's Hoosiers teammates said he "sings everywhere he goes [...] Slow-jam, R&B type stuff." And on the night of the 2013 NBA draft, shortly after he'd been selected second overall by the Orlando Magic, Oladipo responded to being put on the spot by Jill Martin by belting out a bit of John Legend's part from Meek Mill's "Maybach Curtains." The charismatic young wing's got some music in his voice, as my old man used to say, and he enjoys showing it off when given an opportunity.

But while Victor's vocals aren't breaking news, and while it's been a few months since Oladipo joined fellow Hoosier athlete Shelby Gogreve on stage at the 2013 Spirit of Indiana Showcase, I'm still going to share it now, because we don't get too many opportunities to hear NBA players capably sing songs as good as the Bill Withers classic "Ain't No Sunshine," and because we never get to do it mere days after Withers himself joins Johnny Mathis to sing a song about Bill Russell's father at a ceremony unveiling a statue in honor of Russell's achievements as a member of a Boston Celtics and a civil rights icon.

So let's double our NBA x Bill Withers synergy and listen to Vic croon a bit:

Not bad, rook. Keep this, and that, up and it wouldn't surprise me if the league came calling, asking if you could perform some singing and dunking double-duty come All-Star Weekend.

Now, let's enjoy the original, as sung by the man himself back in 1971:

Hat-tip to friend of the program Jared Dubin.
