B.C. moves to make drug use illegal in public spaces

The B.C. government is moving to ban illicit drug use in public places, a U-turn in its policy decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of illicit drugs. Premier David Eby says the province has requested an exception under federal drug laws to give police the power to step in when they see someone using drugs in spaces including hospitals, transit services and parks. However, he says the goal isn't to arrest more people. (April 26, 2024)
