(Reuters) -Belgian metal recycling group Umicore lowered its 2024 profit forecast on Wednesday, citing dour demand projections for battery materials due to a slowing electric vehicle (EV) market, sending its shares to a near decade low. Shares of the company, which makes catalytic converters and battery materials for carmakers, fell 7% to the bottom of STOXX Europe 600 index in morning trading, as analysts deemed the cut was worse than feared. Umicore was expecting more orders from Chinese EV makers looking to set foot on the continent, but it said on Wednesday that those volumes will not materialize in 2024, while legacy contracts also come to an end faster than anticipated.
