Tech, not oil, could be Canada’s best energy export

While Canada has limited ability to ramp up oil and gas exports quickly and respond to the current commodity, the country has an opportunity to lead the global energy transition with technologies to reduce emissions for producers.

Kevin Krausert, CEO and co-founder of Avatar Innovations, says deep-pocketed Canadian oil sands firms are the ideal first customers for carbon capture and hydrogen technologies. Their support, he says, would help push down costs and encourage adoption around the world.

“What if we use one of the largest assets the country has, the oil sands, as the first customer to prove out some of these technologies, make them commercial, and export them to the world?” he asked in the latest episode of Yahoo Finance Canada’s Editor’s Edition. “I think that’s an exciting story that all Canadians can get behind.”
