TORONTO — A southern Ontario restaurant says members of a recent private party that included a local provincial politician ignored pandemic-related safety guidelines. In a post on its Facebook page this week, Betty's Restaurant in Niagara Falls, Ont., says the group was "reminded several times" to wear masks when not seated at their table but chose not to do so. The restaurant says it can remind guests of the protocols but cannot "strong-arm them" into following rules. Progressive Conservative legislator Sam Oosterhoff has apologized for not wearing a mask while posing for a group photo at the restaurant. Oosterhoff, who is parliamentary assistant to the education minister, posted the picture on social media but later deleted it. He said the event was in line with provincial rules, but acknowledged he should have worn a mask when taking the photo given the proximity of the people around him. Critics have called for Oosterhoff's resignation as parliamentary assistant, saying he was flouting his government's pandemic guidance. Betty's said Oosterhoff's party was in a private room with a separate entrance and washrooms and did not interact with other patrons. Staff sanitized and disinfected the room after the party, the restaurant said. "We are truly doing our best to follow all guidelines for your safety and ours," the company's Facebook post reads. "We humbly appreciate all of those who continue to support us." Oosterhoff's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Turkey's leader said on Wednesday that Western countries mocking Islam wanted to "relaunch the Crusades", heightening a confrontation with France over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad that have stirred anger in Muslim-majority countries. In a speech to lawmakers of his AK Party in parliament, President Tayyip Erdogan also said that standing against attacks on the Prophet was "an issue of honour for us", suggesting Ankara may be digging in for a prolonged standoff. The row with France flared after a French teacher who showed pupils cartoons of the Prophet published in the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo was beheaded in France this month.

The pandemic has forced companies to lay off workers by the millions, hurting their spending power, and the hit to air travel has also taken a toll on cross-border card transaction volumes. Mastercard reported a 36% drop in cross-border volume on a local currency basis in the reported quarter. Cross-border volumes have continued to fall since the quarter ended, with all first three weeks of October clocking declines of more than 30%, according to an investor presentation.

Slice — the innovative tech platform powering America’s local pizzerias — announced today that it will eliminate its industry-low standard fee to shops on small orders as well as $10 pickup minimums. Slice’s CEO Ilir Sela issued a challenge to all ordering services to follow suit by adjusting their own fee structures to be fairer for small businesses. When a customer places an order on Slice for $10 or less including taxes, the partner shop will no longer be charged the standard $2.25 per order from Slice. As a result, each of the over 13,000 local pizzerias on the Slice marketplace will keep more of the revenue and pass that value down to the consumer. With small order fees and $10 order minimums eliminated, some shops will be able to add lower ticket lunch items that previously may not have been included on the menu. These changes will go into effect on November 1, 2020 and will remain in effect indefinitely.

The Global Distribution Automation Solutions Market will grow by $ 6.86 bn during 2020-2024
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Oct. 28, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- JAGGAER has launched a refreshed brand identity and website to mark its Silver Jubilee. Over its 25-year history the company, originally named SciQuest, has grown from a North Carolina start-up to a global leader in spend management and procurement software through a combination of customer focus, mergers and acquisitions and technological excellence. “We have refreshed our corporate identity and website to reflect JAGGAER’s core values of passion, humility, empathy, transparency and accountability, and our 25-year tradition of customer-centric innovation and excellence in service delivery,” commented JAGGAER CEO Jim Bureau. “The new look reflects the fact that JAGGAER is a friendly, open and approachable company with a diverse employee base. We are one of the largest companies in North Carolina, with international reach and significance,” added Roger Blumberg, Vice President, Corporate & Product Marketing. The company is celebrating with customers and employees while reflecting on an extraordinary history. It was founded in 1995 by four friends: Scott Andrews, Bobby Feigler, Peyton Anderson and Keith Gunter. Andrews and Feigler were working for one of the major laboratory supplies distributors, servicing pharmaceutical companies such as Glaxo Wellcome and academic institutions including University of North Carolina and Duke. Their jobs involved leafing through enormous product catalogs to source the items demanded by scientists from a network of thousands of manufacturers around the world. With the advent of the internet, they realized that everything would move online, and they were determined to be the first to market. The four got together in a local Subway restaurant and sketched business plans on napkins. They raised initial investment from friends and family, mostly in their hometown of Farmland, Virginia. One investor was so enthusiastic that he turned up for a meeting with a down payment of $40,000 in cash behind the seat of his pickup truck towards a total investment of $100,000. “It was a clearly risky investment decision, taken in less than five minutes, but we turned his $100,000 into $6.5 million in about four years,” recalled Scott Andrews.Nevertheless, as SciQuest’s customers increasingly placed orders directly with suppliers, the commission-based business model did not have a future. Especially after the dotcom bubble burst.A couple of acquisitions set the company on a new path. First, the purchase of EMAX with its ERM (Enterprise Reagent Manager) software product early in 2000 delivered immediate value to the company’s existing pharmaceutical clients while establishing SciQuest as a software vendor. Second, SciQuest acquired HigherMarkets in 2002, which opened up the universities market, still a large part of JAGGAER’s recurring revenue stream.Around the same time there was also a change of personnel. Steve Wiehe, previously with SAS Institute, took over as CEO and recruited a team of software developers. The company continued to grow organically and through acquisitions. Then, in 2017, SciQuest rebranded as JAGGAER and acquired Pool4Tool, a Vienna-based provider of direct sourcing and supply chain management software. JAGGAER entered a joint venture with Tejari Solutions in the United Arab Emirates. In December of the same year it acquired BravoSolution, a vendor of spend management solutions with a strong presence in the United Kingdom and Italy. JAGGAER had become a truly global force in the procurement software as a service (SaaS) market. Two further developments round out the story to date. In 2019 JAGGAER launched its end-to-end sourcing and procurement platform, JAGGAER ONE and in the same year the UK-based private equity firm Cinven made a major investment in the company to support its future growth and development.About JAGGAER: Procurement SimplifiedJAGGAER is the world’s largest independent spend management company, connecting customers to a network of 4 million suppliers in 70 countries, served by offices located in the Americas, APAC, Asia and EMEA. A Belgian chocolatier has been crowned the world's best pastry chef by a jury of independent reporters, helping consolidate Belgium's reputation as a producer of top class chocolate. The family of Walter Wallace Jr., the Black man whose fatal shooting by Philadelphia police has sparked nights of unrest in that city, is appealing for calm. And, National Guard troops are bracing for more disorder. This was his father Tuesday night: "That's all I'm sending out is an SOS to help, not to hurt, and cause no chaos, violent, looting, fire, all this things because I wasn't brought up like this (...) I don't know what's going on, and I hope people show my family and this city some kind of respect because, like me, I don't have time to loot and burn up and destroy where I live. It's uncalled for. It really is." Wallace's family says he was suffering from a mental breakdown when he was confronted by police, armed with a knife. A family lawyer says he suffered from bipolar disorder and his wife relayed his psychological difficulties to the officers before the shooting. A bystander's video on Monday shows the incident. His mother, Catherine Wallace was also there. "I was telling police to stop. 'Don't shoot my son, please don't shoot my son.'" Rallies for Wallace began peacefully on Tuesday as they had on Monday. But later in the night, crowds were seen looting, including - according to local media - a Walmart. Philadelphia is the latest flashpoint in months of protest over the issues of perceived racism and police brutality, but not the only one. At least 30 people were arrested at an offshoot protest in Brooklyn the same night. NBC News reported that a car attempted to drive through a group of police during the protests in New York.
