PlayStation 5 exceeds Xbox in sales on online black market

Playstation 5 is outstripping Xbox in sales on the secondary market, according to Bloomberg. Yahoo Finance’s On The Move panel share what stories they're watching on Thursday.

Video Transcript

ADAM SHAPIRO: When I think of Sony, I think of Trinitron TVs. That's back in the 1980s. Let's talk about Xbox and PlayStation because PlayStation is winning something. What's up?

DAN HOWLEY: Yeah, the Xbox Series X, Microsoft's next console, and Sony's PlayStation 5, their next console, are going to be available next month, November, but it looks like PlayStation is already outstripping Xbox as far as sales go, at least among the secondary market-- kind of so-called scalpers who went in, got pre-orders, and now are reselling them to people online. And it seems as though that the Sony PlayStation 5 may beat out Xbox's Series X.

Now in the previous console generation, the PlayStation 4 dominated the Xbox One by a wide margin. A lot of that had to do though with some of the games that were available on the PlayStation as well as the higher price of the Xbox One right out of the gate. So this time around the Xbox will actually have a lower entry-level price for its entry-level model, so it could do significantly better this time.
