Vintage beauties at a car rally charm people in Chennai

Vintage car owners and collectors converged in Chennai on Sunday for a rally of classic beauties. The rally was organized by Madras Heritage Motoring Club, which boasts of at least 200 vintage cars and 130 members. The rally showcased vintage cars dating back to 1930s, including Jaguar Mark 2 (1952), Morris 8 Toured (1946), Dodge Brothers (1948) and Chevrolet Fleetmaster (1947). The club also has the oldest car plying on road - a 1926 Austin Chummy - owned by club's President Balraj Vasudevan. Founding member and secretary of Madras Heritage Motoring Club, VS Kylas said if proper care is taken of the vintage beauties, they serve well. The beauties on wheels roamed around the roads of Chennai after the rally was flagged off from Taj by Vivanta - Connemara Hotel, with an aim to commemorate the history of automobiles and the city together. The vintage cars are not only a source of pride for their owners, but also have sentimental values attached as they are passed on from one generation to another generation as family legacy. Talking of an Austin 16 at the rally, the daughter of a car owner, Chohila, said the car belonged to her great grandfather, whom she has never met.
