Fireball Over Michigan Was Satellite Reentry, Says NASA

NASA said on October 20 that a “bright, long-lasting” fireball reported in the early hours in US Midwestern states was caused by the “reentry and fragmentation of a satellite” rather than a “natural object”, amid reports of a meteor.

This video, by Pete Mumbower, shows a fireball trailing across the sky just outside of Kalamazoo, he said. “Pretty big fireball streaked across southern Michigan/northern Indiana skies last night at 12:43 am,” Mumbower wrote in a caption. “Big blob is the full moon.” Credit: Pete Mumbower via Storyful
