Man arrested in connection with shooting that killed 16-year-old in Stanislaus County

The shooting happened May 2 near the intersection of Martha Avenue and 7th Street in Keyes. When deputies arrived, they found the teen victim unresponsive in the middle of the road, according to the sheriff's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen's family identified the victim as 16-year-old Evan Robinson. Detectives believe an altercation led to the gunfire that killed Evan, an innocent bystander, authorities said. On Thursday, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office announced deputies had arrested 19-year-old Ruben Perez, of Keyes, in connection with the shooting. Deputies found that Perez was on active probation when he was arrested and had been previously convicted as a juvenile for assault with a firearm. The investigation into Evan’s death is still ongoing. Anyone with further information is urged to call 209-525-7042.
