IMAX CEO: Diversity on board was an issue 'but we fixed it'

IMAX (IMAX) CEO Richard Gelfond joined Yahoo Finance Live and discussed the appointment of two women to IMAX’s Board of Directors. Producer Gail Berman and Reddit COO Jen Wong are the newest members.

Gelfond stressed that the company previously hadn’t done a great job of diversifying its board. “We actually went out and made a concerted effort to say we want more diverse candidates, but instead of finding one, we found two.”

Gelfond also discussed the 95th Annual Academy Awards ceremony. ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ was one of the biggest movies of 2022 and was shot with IMAX cameras; it’s nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture.

IMAX’s highest grossing film of 2022, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is up for four Oscars.
