Hershey’s stock pops on Q4 earnings, cites strong holiday season demand

Yahoo Finance Live anchors discuss fourth-quarter earnings for Hershey’s.

Video Transcript

BRIAN SOZZI: All right, from that to candy, I'm looking at Hershey's here. The stock is up nice here in the early going following this company's earnings. The stock is up about 20% over the past year, outperforming the S&P 500. And I think this quarter explains why Hershey, their sales in their US candy mint and gum segment, their most important segment, up 10.7%, in large part due to higher prices.

Gum did well. Chocolate did well, despite these higher price increases. And Hershey's has just been executing. This quarter is not a one-off. This has been happening really under CEO Michelle Buck for some time, but really has been gaining steam in the past three quarters.

BRAD SMITH: Yeah, good Pennsylvania company here, Sozz. You know I had to give them that PA shoutout. I took my senior trip there, physics trip--

JULIE HYMAN: Nice.

BRAD SMITH: --in high school to Hershey Park in PA. So shout out to them there. But look, some of those price increases you're talking about, it's continuing to kind of permeate into this year as well. Net price realization going to help that net sales growth that they're anticipating going forward in their outlook of 6% to 8% here, too.

JULIE HYMAN: I took my share of trips to Chocolate World as well, living just over the border--
