Flash Flooding in Southwest Utah Creates 'River' in Cedar City Backyard

A backyard in Cedar City, Utah, was inundated by raging floodwaters after heavy rain hit the area on July 26, with over two inches of rain recorded in about an hour, according to the National Weather Service.

The mayor of Cedar City, Maile Wilson-Edwards, declared a state of emergency on Monday, describing the damage caused to “public and private property” as “extensive.”

This video, taken as a Facebook live by Bevan Cox, shows a torrent of water pouring through his backyard. The floodwater tore down some of his fence and flooded his basement, he said.

Speaking to Storyful, Cox said most of the homes on his street are flooded and that the water damage has destroyed many apartments and cars around the area. Credit: Bevan Cox via Storyful
