Dark Smoke Fills Sky in La Palma as Volcano Erupts

More than 200 buildings were destroyed and 6,000 people evacuated by September 21 as lava advanced toward the coastline of La Palma, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, amid the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, Telecinco reported.

The first eruption was reported at around 3:30 pm local time September 19.

Multiple government agencies responded, including the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (Involcan), the local council, civil protection units, firefighters, and police.
