Dangerous Driver Jailed After Being Caught by Police Dog in Sheffield

A dangerous driver pursued by police through Sheffield, England, before being brought down by a police dog has been jailed, with South Yorkshire Police releasing footage of the chase on October 26.

The reckless driver travelled at speeds of up to 90mph in a 30mph zone through residential streets, sped through red lights, and drove on the wrong side of the road during the 15-minute pursuit at around 4.30am on 27 May 2020, police said. The 37-year-old, who said he was “drunk” during the incident, according to police, was eventually brought down by a police dog after fleeing from the car, an Audi A3.

Hussain denied being the driver on the day of the pursuit but on October 22 this year, he was convicted by a jury of dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison for the dangerous driving and a further six months for disqualified driving, to run concurrently.

Sergeant Broughton said: “This incident showed an unbelievable disregard for the safety of members of the public who could have got caught up in what happened with tragic consequences. This was a highly dangerous and selfish incident and I am glad that justice has been served, with Hussain rightly spending time behind bars for his despicable actions.” Credit: South Yorkshire Police via Storyful
