Colonial Pipeline regains control, Bill Gates latest, Tax Day arrives

Julie Hyman discusses some of Monday’s business headlines, including: Colonial resuming operations, Microsoft’s investigation into Bill Gates, and the deadline to file taxes finally arriving in America.

Video Transcript

JULIE HYMAN: Some other headlines we are watching at this hour, the latest on the Colonial Pipeline, which has now resumed normal operations. That happened on Saturday after that ransomware attack that shut down the company's computer systems and led to the gasoline supply shortage across the country, or at least, the panic buying as a result of the headlines around the shutdown resulting in that gasoline supply shortage.

The company saying in a tweet Saturday, we've returned the system to normal operations, delivering millions of gallons per hour to the markets we serve. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told the Associated Press that the nation is over the hump on gas shortages, with about 200 stations returning to service every hour.

That's not a pipeline. That's Bill Gates. And Microsoft reportedly investigated the man in 2020 over a prior romantic relationship with a previous employee. The investigation came after a Microsoft engineer alleged that she had a sexual relationship with Gates over several years. That's according to "The Wall Street Journal." "The Journal" reporting that Gates resigned before the investigation concluded. And coincidentally or not, he exited the board of Berkshire Hathaway around the same time.

And today is Tax Day. It's the official last day for Americans to file their taxes after the Treasury Department and the IRS extended that deadline in March. The deadline, though, does not apply to Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. That's where the IRS extend the deadline to June 15. And that came after the Federal Emergency Management Agency gave disaster declarations in those states following the winter storms in February. So more extenuating circumstances in particular in those states.
