Cat Jumps Toward Rescuers' Arms From Flaming Second-Story Window in Harlem

A cat escaped a fire in an apartment block that injured several people in Harlem, New York, on October 24 by jumping from a two-story window.

Two New York City police officers and several tenants of the building were injured in the blaze, which was started by a man who was wanted on domestic violence charges, according to NBC.

Footage recorded by local resident Aaron Ganaway shows the cat jumping from the flaming window towards police officers below. The cat barely avoids being caught by the officers but is then caught by an onlooker who hands it back to the authorities.

At the time of writing, officers were still looking for the animal’s owner and had temporarily nicknamed the cat ‘Tom Cat’, according to NBC. Credit: Aaron Ganaway via Storyful
