Carl Bernstein says Trump is 'more of a disgrace' than Nixon following second impeachment

Famed journalist Carl Bernstein joined Anderson Cooper 360 Wednesday night just hours after President Trump became the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice, this time on Charges of inciting insurrection at the Capitol on January 6. Bernstein spoke about the differences between Trump and former president Richard Nixon, who resigned due to his involvement in the Watergate scandal before the House could vote on impeachment.
“Is this more of a shambles than Richard Nixon?” Cooper asked. “Well, it’s more of a disgrace,” Bernstein replied. “This president has created an insurrection that attacked—caused the people's house to be sacked by his followers. So we're talking about a totally different set of crimes than Nixon’s.”
Bernstein went on to say he believes Trump is more dangerous to the country than Nixon ever was.
“He is the gravest danger to the national security of the United States that any president has ever been,” Bernstein said. “You cannot say that about Richard Nixon.”

Video Transcript

ANDERSON COOPER: No president has ever been impeached twice. The president likes to be-- get all the superlatives. He certainly has them now. Is this more of a shambles than Richard Nixon?

CARL BERNSTEIN: Well, it's more of a disgrace.

- Hours after President Trump became the first president in US history to be impeached twice, famed journalist Carl Bernstein joined "Anderson Cooper 360," where he spoke about the differences between Trump and former President Richard Nixon, who resigned due to the Watergate scandal before the House could vote on impeachment.

CARL BERNSTEIN: This president has created an Insurrection that attacked, caused the people's house to be sacked by his followers. So we're talking about a totally different set of crimes than Nixon's.

- Following the failed Insurrection at the Capitol last week as Joe Biden's election victory was being certified, Bernstein says Trump is more dangerous than Nixon ever was.

CARL BERNSTEIN: He is the gravest danger to the national security of the United States that any president has ever been. You cannot say that about Richard Nixon.

- And Bernstein spoke about Nixon's final hours in office and agreed that Trump's are unlikely to be similar.

CARL BERNSTEIN: Nixon came to this introspective place, where he recognized what he had done to the country.

ANDERSON COOPER: Well, that ain't going to happen.

CARL BERNSTEIN: And his concern was for the country, despite his horrible, horrible crimes.

ANDERSON COOPER: Yeah, introspection is not something--

CARL BERNSTEIN: That's exactly right.

ANDERSON COOPER: --this person does.
