'Breathtaking' Lava Flows Visible Overnight on La Palma

A river of lava was visible on the Spanish island of La Palma on the evening of October 18, as the Cumbre Vieja volcano showed no signs of slowing nearly a month after it began erupting.

As of Sunday, at least 1,835 structures have been destroyed by lava flows covering 789.6 hectares (about 3 square miles), according to the European Union’s Copernicus satellite program.
