It was really amazing watching a bunch of amateurs trying to pull off a deal to buy a top-shelf company. It’s naive to think that Wesco stock is seen as valuable as cash. Really? This could one day be a case study in an MBA class.

It’s just as well that the deal didn’t go down. Sales are similar for Wesco and Anixter, but the differences are stark and end there. Anixter is a well-managed and led company. Wesco lacks discipline and lacks strong leadership. Sales would have increased, but total market share would only have been the same as it is separately today. The payback would have never happened.

Execution isn’t one of Wesco’s strengths. If the deal had gone through, two things would have definitely happened. Anixter would have performed worse after the acquisition than it did before, and Anixter would have never been fully integrated into Wesco.

This scenario has played out a dozen times over the years – Communications Supply, EECOL, Carlton-Bates, Needham, just to name a few. No acquisition has lived up to expectations. Even today, employees at acquired companies never say they work for Wesco, but that they work for the original company. ONE WESCO is a joke and window-dressing to the street. They’ve been trying to get this right for 10 years, at a great cost, but with very limited success. Companies next to each other in the same building won’t even talk to each other.

Wesco doesn’t have the smarts to integrate well-performing companies. They are scared of their shadow and are unable to make the difficult decisions required when integrating a company.

The folks at Anixter will never know how fortunate they were that the deal didn’t come to fruition. This failure has got to hurt at Wesco. Anixter was the top company out there and there isn’t another one that is close in comparison. It will be interesting to see what’s the next shiny object tuns out to be.

This constant "new 52 week high reporting helped with keeping the employees happy!!!! "WESCO International recognized by Forbes as One of the World's Best Employers & One of America's Best Employers for Women". If they hit that again in 2021, think about where the stock price will be a year from now.

one of the things I like best about WCC is that nobody posts about it here. if it was any more under the radar, we would need sonar to track it.
