The thing that blows my mind and scares me as someone who is long, is that every other subprime lender had a record quarter…. So when management blames macro factors I really have a hard time believing it.

    1) SoFi had a phenomenal quarter.

    2) I’m in Canada and we “GoEasy”, a company that exclusively does high interest subprime loans.

GoEasy reported yesterday, a MASSIVE beat, all time record numbers, and huge QoQ and YoY Q growth….

I hope I’m wrong, and like I said I’ve been long since my entry at $72

But at this point it’s hard for me not to start thinking the investment thesis is broken….

Would love some more opinions on this.

I don’t doubt this will move up over the long run but everyone tends to put the cart before the horse.

There are still so many unknowns in terms of the macro environment.

More importantly, stocks don’t move up in a straight line. Upstart likely isn’t done with the 20s. Don’t fall for fomo hype.

I need 34.07 so I can take my 2 buck profit and skidaddle. if the price drastically drops, that was me cashing out my 1 share

If this run-up continues, I would consider selling some shares. Management keeps switching back and forth between using balance sheet, noting the first time they did it was due to the reduction in their stock price (which has nothing to do with business fundamentals in the long if management believes it is a best choice to keep their volume up). Despite the continuing addition of new partners, it seems like their partners aren't willing to supply them with loans and causing a huge reduction in volume and revenue. Why did they decide the sell those loans for a "loss" after listening to the market noise? (Interest rates are still rising, so if they decide to add new loans on the balance sheet, we might see some negative fair value adjustment, which reduces revenue even more). Stock-based compensation continues to increase drastically, while the outlook is getting worse. So even though they've spent $150 mils on share buyback, that's not even a meaningful amount since it only reduces the outstanding shares by a tiny amount. Forward P/E is getting extremely high since they're expected to generate losses for quite some time until macro gets better. As a long-term holder, I am expecting a lot worse to come, but I am sure things would be better after 2023 as the harsh macro environment improves their AI model and institutional buyers become more confident with UPST's model. Welp, at least now we know that UPST is very cyclical and easily affected by the capital market.

I think most people here are for short term.
If you are long term upstart believer, it matters little if you buy share at $35 or $25. Returns can be multi-bagger if you are willing to hold long term. We all know it can reach $400, if it reaches $200 next time, that's 6-7 times return from current levels. With easing of monetary environment, it can shoot up very very fast.

Compare their $400 per share last year, $34 is nothing. If you sell too early, you are going to miss the huge short squeeze next week. Let's go!!!!!!

Great week but don't think UPST is out of the woods just yet. Question: Will it hit $40 before $25 this time? I hope it does but the rug better be nailed down so it holds on consecutive Red days. Enjoy your weekend UPST!
