(Bloomberg) -- Democrats ratcheted up criticism of meatpacking giants Wednesday as a key lawmaker on antitrust issues charged that profiteering at the expense of consumers and farmers has reached “crisis” level

The company made $8.24/share last quarter, according to report yesterday. If takeover deal fails, then the stock should go higher, not lower.

I just called IR- the earnings report has to be presented NLT Dec 31st - they expect it to be next Tuesday the 21st!!!!

    any sign of earnings?

Does the government put the screws to the buyout?? The president want Congress to investigate pricing. Maybe deal never closes.

    Earnings came in today:

    EPS at $20.38.
"For fiscal 2021, we reported net income of $455.1 million, or $20.38 per share, as compared to net income of $28.3 million, or $1.27 per share, during fiscal 2020."

Merger > The parties expect that the Merger will be completed in the first half of 2022.

SAFM received 2nd DOJ "request" yesterday Dec' 20th.

One of the reasons stock was down a good $2.5 today is that the merger completion news is every eluding and on top of that FTC/Biden administration is spoiling it by surely dragging their feet on the merger approval in the name of inflation that they themselves are responsible for.

However, since Cargill never did chicken business and SAFM never did grain business, don't see how DOJ can reject it but don't my advice on that.

There is supposedly a 30 day waiting period. Did it start?

If the deal is at 203 per share why is this at 188? Isn't it a no brainer for someone to cash in the difference at the sale or is there something underlying that I am not aware of?

    Long Term
Closing date soon - seems like everything is approved - but is the company now worth more than $203 due to protein shortages? Will need to up the offer?
  • S
why is it stuck at $195 when the offer per share is $203??

This stock is so overvalued comparing to peers. For market sell-off sheltering? Make no sense.

Just since the end of may, corn futures have dropped 15% from $412 to $350. With feed costs being 40% of cost of goods sold, this will help the bottom line.

usually ask is 199,999 a share in the a.m. REV where good even after Hurricane outlook coming. CC first then I might buy more

Oversupply is the concern. Who wants to buy it at this danger price? The chicken growth cycle is 3 months. It will take the company at least 6 months to rebalance its supply. Company is often overestimating. Wait for $100 or below to enter.
