It's time to quote Virgin Airlines (previous) owner, Richard Branson. When he ones was asked what was the easiest way to become a millionaire, he answered "First become a Billionaire, and then buy an airline". The airline business is extremely competetive, and since most airlines (in most countries) are protected/helped by their governments, because of national pride etc, there is an excess supply of airlines, and they can't charge the prices they would need to become profitable, etc. The airlines industry has been struggling with profitability for years, for the same reason. It's difficult to like as a passanger, but probably the number of airlines should be reduced, and maybe prices could be kept on the same level. It would give a lot of synergy cost savings for the airlines.
