PE 32 for a utility company? Are people anticipating any surprise earning to bring the PE back down? If not, why lock down money for something running behind inflation? Guidance needed please.

ATCO Group and Microsoft announce long term renewable energy power purchase agreement you gotta like it

Canadian Utilities is mostly a regulated utility. So, it can leverage its balance sheet because the operate in a protected environment. It is monitored by Govt and Credit Rating agencies and it has a "A" credit rating which classifies CU in a credit rating group where there is little company. CU also operates Alberta's grid and the value of the GRID has gone up dramatically since the Texas freeze. While CU has some International operations and growth opportunities, it is primarily gas and electricity generation and transmission company. Pretty simple business and YES the dividend is SAFE. Don't know where the negative bloggers are getting their dividend cut tantrums from? CU is making a quadruple bottom right here right now - looks like at great area to start a position or add to an existing one. Dividend stocks are likely the outperformers in 2021 given the huge run up in growth stocks over the last year. Be bullish!!

I am here for the safe dividend. I hope we just maintain a slow and gradual price appreciation.

I'm new here: Looks like this board is pretty dead - but I'll try it regardless. 5% dividend and a rock-solid business. Any red flags to be aware off? And why would you own this rather than ATCO?
L
This is still very heavily dependent on the Alberta economy and the strength of its oil industry. They supply services to alot of rural customers who rely on the energy jobs. Obviously we've seen a bit of an exodus in those areas. It might explain the weakness we're seeing in CU

CU-PE.TO reached a 52 Week low at 20.71

does anyone have ideas why this CU is dropped 5% on Feb 26, and trending downward today? Other utilities such as Hydro one , Algonquin, and Fortis all went up today.
M
this is a good stock that will not let you down in the long term, but i sold most of my stake today. we're in a time of incredible growth and CU is just too stagnant for me. i am young and my risk tolerance is high though.

49 years of consecutive dividend growth, announcing plans to invest 4 billion into new projects over the next 4 years with 96% of the projects being long term contracts.. looks good.
R
No real news for the drop. Great secure yield and earnings comparable should get better from here. This looks like fantastic level to start a position or add some to an existing one. CU a better bet than ACO.X right now as well.

Just bought. Great dividends and overall Canadian power house for over 40 years. Don’t think they will be letting us down any time soon.

I don't know why people even use the CU chat board... this company is one of the most stable thoughtless investments you could possibly make.
